NVIDIA Mid-Range GTX 1650 got a new powerful Ultra variant

by Rustam Iqbal

GTX is one of the most leading and promising line-ups of powerful graphics cards manufactured by NVidia. With its excellent performance and high-end processing units, the GTX line-up has always gained superiority over any other series introduced by NVidia, and it also runs tough against the external competition.

Recently, an unannounced entry made its way up to the internet listing, indicating a potential upcoming entrant in the GTX line-up, more specifically, it is a high-end variant of the base 1650, already listed on the NVidia websites. However, this new entry in works is not yet revealed or advertised by Nvidia itself, it was first found and reported in the list of drivers where Device IDs identify different GPUs.

Manufactured by Galax, the Nvidia GTX 1650 Ultra is considered an excellent choice for your powerful rig. The GTX 1650 Ultra is based on the TU106 GPU, which is the exact same chip that powers the NVidia’s high and mighty RTX 2070, further reinforcing the idea that this could be one of the most promising and powerful GPU on the lower level. Except it won’t be as powerful as the higher-end RTX entrants, because the company has gushed down the CUDA cores to a much smaller proportion with the TU106-125 variant of the chips with a subtracted percentage of 61.1% cores, it equips only 896 compared the RTX 2070’s 2304 cores.

The GTX 1650 Ultra is specified to have 6GB of 128bit GDDR6 VRAM running at 12 Gbps, with a 1,590 MHz boost clock, running it at a top-notch speed with 896 CUDA cores. It comes with an old school, DVI connection, as well as a single HDMI port and a Display port. The specification implies that this variant will be quite powerful and so does the addition of Ultra to the name, having higher memory capacity than any other variation of the GTX 1650. Still, somehow, it is surprisingly less powerful than the GTX 1650 super in all regards except the memory capacity. The new GTX 1650 also features a higher [Thermal Design Power (TDP)](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thermal_design_power) of 90W against the 75W of the two base variants and only 10W less than the GTX 1650 Super.

Cutting down the CUDA cores, and the absence of ray tracing and tensor cores in a TU106 chip indicates that the new entry is possibly a decent GPU with up-to-date architecture and high-end performance, and will be sold at an affordable price point for the general users.

NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 Series

GTX 1650 SUPER GTX 1650 GDDR6 TU106 GTX 1650 GDDR6 GTX 1650

Despite having a higher VRAM capacity, the 1650 Ultra will possibly be advertised at selling point that does not exceed the price of the 1650 Super. The increased capacity of the VRAM was a much-needed specification; otherwise, the crushing ways of the next-gen engines will not let it survive the market for long. Having a wild card performance GPU with a decent price-tag can really push things for NVidia against its competitors.

A decent number of gaming enthusiasts are welcoming this new entrant very warmly. Another entry with the good old Ultra moniker will bring in more advanced GPUs and especially at an affordable price range. Anyhow, it is quite a bit surprising that in the information revealed as of yet, the GTX 1650 Ultra’s specifications are not very different compared to the previous GDDR6 GTX 1650. Although, it will still be a high competition against the next-gen RDNA 2-based graphics manufactured by AMD for the Radeon line-up. The GTX 1650 Ultra is the fourth variant entry in the GTX 1650 series, it will possibly be a sub-variant of the GTX 1650 GDDR6, as it only exceeds in TDP and VRAM capacity against other specification. It might as well be sold at the same price point as the GTX 1650 GDDR6 unless NVidia has other plans in mind.
